I came a little late to translating... I spent a few years trying out different careers. I worked as a legal assistant, a bookkeeper, an office manager, an HR representative, even a restaurant manager... all before I found my calling. While I sometimes wish I had gotten into translation sooner, I'm thankful that I was able to experience such a wide variety of positions. It makes me a stronger translator, as I'm well versed in the vocabulary used in such widely different positions. Now, I'm able to put all of those various skills to use, helping others to communicate with the best, most natural translations possible.
I have been translating since 2009. I am a native English speaker with a BA in Spanish Translation, a BS in Behavioral Sciences and an MA in International Development Studies. I have spent time living and working in various places and languages, and have both translation and practical working experience in French, Spanish and Portuguese as well as English.
I developed my love of languages as a young child when my family moved to Spain and I learnt to speak both Spanish and Mallorcan. On my return to the UK I continued studying Spanish and later earned a degree in Hispanic Studies at Glasgow University. I began learning both Portuguese and Catalan as part of my degree course and later moved to Lisbon to further study the language. A year spent working in Northern Spain led me to discover Galician.
Professionally I have spent over a decade working alongside educators to develop programs of learning in modern languages and sustainability. I combine my expertise in these fields with my practical experience and research in translation to create texts that are accurate, trustworthy and timely.

I am an English native speaker. I was born in Scotland, UK. Although I have lived in Spain for over 11 years, so I considered myself to speak and write like a native.
As for my experience, I have around 6 years experience translating all sorts of documents such as medical documents, products, CVs, manuals, law documents, notary docs especially from English to Spanish but also Viceversa. Furthermore, I also have vast experience translating to and from Catalán.
I am a multi-skilled, reliable, creative and talented worker. I am a quick learner and am not afraid of challenges, in any form or manner, be it new projects, new responsibilities, new software or new teams.
I have excellent people skills and have worked individually and in teams, both as a team member and as a team leader.
Having grown up in Spain within an English family, I am proficient in both languages and have a good overall grasp of the culture and idiosyncrasies of both nations.
Working for 10 years as a teacher of Spanish, English & IT has given me ample experience in communication, marketing and sales, as well as in the food and beverage and hospitality industries. The latter being two fields I have worked in even more closely while owning and managing my own café, restaurant and guesthouse.
I am extremely computer-literate and quite adaptable in that respect. I have, in fact, taught IT courses for teens from broken homes, old-aged pensioners and the hearing impaired, as part of social exclusion prevention programs, both as a volunteer and as a paid teacher.
I am currently embarked on a new personal adventure: discovering the world; I started by getting back to my roots, so to speak, and moved to England for a year. It may seem strange that a highly-qualified and experienced person wishes to throw caution to the wind and drop everything in order to move from sunny Spain to England, but it was a well thought-out plan and has far deeper motivations than work or money. I feel that change is a very positive thing, and forcing oneself to face new challenges and changes can be most invigorating and a great life experience, full of interesting new faces, sights, sounds and flavours. Next stop? Who knows? I am currently based in Valencia, Spain, and will be for at least the next 12 months. My work is quite portable, so anywhere with a good internet connection and a plug is just fine.
